  • 2 medium firm apples washed, cored, and cut into 1/2 inch wedges
  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter melted
  • 1 tbsp granular low carb sweetener
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla bean paste
  • 1/8 tsp kosher salt
  • 1 scoop unflavored whey protein powder

Method
 

  1. Preheat the air fryer to 350°F.
  2. Core the apples and slice into even 1/2 inch wedges.
  3. Toss apple wedges in a bowl with melted butter, sweetener, cinnamon, vanilla, salt, and whey protein until evenly coated.
  4. Let the bowl rest for 2 minutes.
  5. Arrange apples in a single layer in the air fryer basket.
  6. Air fry for 12 minutes, shaking the basket at the 6 minute mark.
  7. Rest apples on a plate for 3 minutes, then serve warm.

Notes

- Keep slices the same thickness so they finish together.
- If the coating looks sticky, line the basket with parchment made for air fryers.
- For deeper browning, cook 1 minute longer and watch closely to avoid bitter sweetener.
- For make ahead, slice apples up to 24 hours ahead and store airtight with 1 tsp lemon juice; toss with coating right before cooking.
