Ingredients
Method
- Preheat the air fryer to 375°F for 5 minutes. Lightly spray the air fryer basket with non aerosol cooking spray.
- Pat the sliced steak dry with paper towels and set aside.
- Add the broccoli florets to a medium bowl, drizzle with the canola oil, and toss until evenly coated.
- Spread the oiled broccoli in a single layer in the preheated air fryer basket with a little space between pieces. Air fry at 375°F for 6 to 8 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through, until bright green with lightly charred edges and crisp tender stems. Transfer the cooked broccoli to a large mixing bowl.
- While the broccoli cooks, add the water, soy sauce, brown sugar, rice vinegar, grated garlic, grated ginger, sesame oil, red pepper flakes, and cornstarch to a microwave safe bowl. Whisk until the cornstarch is fully dissolved and the mixture is smooth.
- Microwave the sauce on high for 1 minute, then whisk well. Return to the microwave and cook for another 30 seconds to 1 minute, whisking once more, until the sauce is thick and glossy and coats the back of a spoon. Keep warm.
- Arrange the sliced steak in a single layer in the air fryer basket, leaving space between pieces so the air can circulate. Air fry at 375°F for 6 to 8 minutes, shaking the basket or flipping the strips halfway through, until the steak is browned on the edges and just cooked through but still tender.
- Add the cooked steak to the bowl with the broccoli. Pour the hot sauce over the beef and broccoli and gently toss until everything is evenly coated.
- Sprinkle with sesame seeds and serve immediately, ideally over cooked rice or noodles.
Notes
- Slice the steak thinly and against the grain so it cooks quickly and stays tender in the air fryer.
- Do not overcrowd the basket; cook the broccoli or beef in 2 batches if your air fryer is small.
- For a slightly thicker sauce, microwave in additional 15 second bursts, whisking between each, until it reaches your desired consistency.
- This dish pairs well with steamed white or brown rice or cooked rice noodles for a complete meal.
