Ingredients
Method
- Preheat the air fryer to 375°F for 3 to 5 minutes.
- Lightly flour your work surface, then divide the pizza dough into 4 equal pieces.
- Working with one piece at a time, press and roll the dough into a 7 to 8 inch circle.
- Spoon about 2 tablespoons of pizza sauce onto half of each dough circle, leaving a 1/2 inch border around the edge.
- Sprinkle about 1/4 cup mozzarella over the sauce, then add an even layer of beef halal beef sausage slices or beef sausage slices, and top with another 1/4 cup mozzarella. Do not overfill.
- Fold the clean side of the dough over the filling to form a half moon.
- Press the edges together firmly with your fingers, then crimp or pinch again to seal so the filling does not leak.
- Lightly spray the tops and bottoms of the calzones with oil spray.
- Spray the air fryer basket with oil, then place the calzones in a single layer in the basket, leaving space between each one. Cook in batches if needed.
- Air fry at 375°F for 8 to 10 minutes, flipping the calzones halfway through, until the crust is deep golden and the cheese inside is melted.
- Transfer the calzones to a rack or plate and let them rest for 3 to 5 minutes before serving so the filling can cool slightly and set.
Notes
- For freezer prep, assemble raw calzones, freeze on a parchment lined sheet, then transfer to a freezer bag and air fry from frozen, adding 2 to 4 minutes to the cook time.
- Reheat leftover cooked calzones in the air fryer at 350°F for 4 to 6 minutes, flipping once, until hot and crisp again.
