Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 2 large large onions Sliced into thin rings
  • 1 cup buttermilk (or milk) For soaking the onions
  • 1 cup flour For coating
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • to taste cooking spray or oil for frying Lightly coat the onion rings

Method

Preparation
  1. Slice the onions into thin rings, separating them as you go. Add them to a bowl and pour over the buttermilk (or milk). Let them soak for at least 1 hour.
  2. In a separate bowl, stir together flour, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika until evenly mixed.
  3. Preheat your air fryer to 350°F (180°C).
Coating and Air Frying
  1. Lift a handful of soaked onions from the buttermilk and let the excess drip off. Toss them in the seasoned flour until fully coated.
  2. Place the coated onion rings in the air fryer basket in a single layer and spray with cooking spray or a light coating of oil.
  3. Air fry for 10–15 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through, until crispy and golden brown.
  4. Serve immediately for the best crunch.

Notes

These crispy onions are great on burgers, salads, or soups. Store leftovers in the fridge but expect them to soften; reheating in the air fryer can help restore crunch.
