Ingredients

Ingredients
  • 3 medium firm apples cored and sliced into 1/2 inch wedges
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs beaten
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • Cooking spray
  • 1/2 cup caramel sauce for serving (optional)
  • 1/2 cup vanilla yogurt for serving (optional)

Method

  1. Core the apples and slice them into 1/2 inch thick wedges, leaving the peel on if desired.
  2. In a small bowl, stir together the cinnamon and sugar until well combined and set aside.
  3. Set up three shallow bowls: add the flour to the first bowl, the beaten eggs to the second bowl, and the panko breadcrumbs mixed with half of the cinnamon sugar mixture to the third bowl.
  4. Working with a few apple wedges at a time, coat each piece lightly in flour, shaking off any excess, then dip in the egg, letting excess drip off, and roll in the panko mixture, pressing gently so the crumbs stick.
  5. Preheat the air fryer to 400°F. Lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray.
  6. Arrange the coated apple fries in a single layer in the basket, leaving a little space between each piece. Lightly mist the tops with cooking spray.
  7. Air fry at 400°F for 8 to 10 minutes until the coating is golden and crisp and the apples are tender inside, shaking the basket or flipping the fries halfway through cooking.
  8. Transfer the hot apple fries to a plate and immediately sprinkle with the remaining cinnamon sugar mixture.
  9. Serve warm with caramel sauce or vanilla yogurt for dipping.

Notes

- Use firm apples like Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Fuji so the fries stay tender but do not turn mushy.
- Cook in batches if needed and keep finished fries on a wire rack so they stay crisp until serving.
