Preparation
- Peel the onions and slice them into thin rings, about ¼ inch thick.
- Place the sliced onions in a bowl and cover them with buttermilk. Let them soak for at least 30 minutes.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper until evenly mixed.
Cooking
- Remove the onions from the buttermilk, allowing excess liquid to drip off. Dip each ring into the flour mixture, ensuring they are well coated.
- Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for about 5 minutes.
- Spray the air fryer basket lightly with cooking spray. Place a single layer of onion rings in the basket and spray the tops lightly with cooking spray.
- Air fry for 10-12 minutes, flipping halfway through, until the onion rings are golden brown and crispy.
- Carefully remove the crispy onions from the air fryer and let them cool slightly on a wire rack.
Notes
For best results, avoid overcrowding the air fryer basket and allow the rings to cool on a wire rack. Adjust cooking time based on your air fryer model.
