Preparation
- Peel and thinly slice the onion into rings or strips.
- In a bowl, mix together the all-purpose flour, cornmeal, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper until well combined.
- Toss the onion slices in the dry mixture until they are evenly coated.
- Preheat your air fryer to 300°F (150°C).
- Spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray or lightly oil it to prevent sticking.
Cooking
- Place the coated onions in the air fryer basket in a single layer. Work in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding.
- Air fry for 15–20 minutes, shaking or stirring halfway through the cooking time, until the onions turn golden brown and crispy.
- Once done, remove the crispy onions and let them cool slightly before serving.
Notes
Store any leftover crispy onions in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days. Reheat them in the air fryer at 300°F (150°C) for around 5 minutes to regain their crunch. For extra flavor, consider adding additional spices like cayenne pepper.
