Ingredients

For the Cake
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon white vinegar
For the Ganache
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 8 ounces chocolate, chopped

Method

Preparation and Baking
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a cake pan with flour.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the vegetable oil, water, vanilla extract, and white vinegar until fully emulsified.
  4. Gradually pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, mixing until you achieve a smooth, lump-free batter.
  5. Transfer the batter into the prepared cake pan, spreading it evenly with a spatula.
  6. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Allow the cake to cool completely in the pan on a wire rack.
Making the Ganache
  1. Heat the heavy cream in a saucepan over medium heat until it just begins to boil.
  2. Pour the heated cream over the chopped chocolate in a bowl and stir until smooth and glossy.
  3. Once the cake is completely cooled, pour the ganache over the top, allowing it to beautifully drip down the sides.
Serving
  1. Slice and serve your delectable chocolate cake!

Notes

Use room temperature ingredients for a smoother batter. Consider adding chocolate chips or nuts for added texture. Store the cake in an airtight container for up to three days.
