Ingredients

Ingredients
  • 1 lb boneless skinless chicken breast cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup barbecue sauce
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp fine sea salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • Cooking spray for the air fryer basket

Method

  1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the honey, barbecue sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper until smooth and combined.
  2. Add the chicken pieces to the bowl and toss until every piece is evenly coated in the honey barbecue marinade.
  3. Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to let the flavors absorb into the chicken.
  4. Preheat the air fryer to 400°F for 3 to 5 minutes.
  5. Lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray.
  6. Arrange the marinated chicken bites in a single layer in the basket, leaving a little space between pieces; cook in batches if needed.
  7. Air fry the chicken at 400°F for 10 to 12 minutes, turning the pieces halfway through, until cooked through and lightly caramelized on the edges.
  8. Transfer the cooked chicken bites to a plate and let rest for 2 to 3 minutes before serving hot.

Notes

- Cut the chicken into evenly sized pieces so they cook at the same rate.
- Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket or the chicken will steam instead of crisp.
- For easier cleanup, you can line the basket with a parchment liner designed for air fryers.
- Use your favorite barbecue sauce; choose a low sugar option if you want to reduce carbs.
- Leftovers keep in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheat well at 350°F in the air fryer for 3 to 5 minutes.
