Ingredients

Ingredients
  • 1 pound boneless skinless chicken breast cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup barbecue sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • Cooking spray for the air fryer basket

Method

  1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the honey, barbecue sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper until smooth and well combined.
  2. Add the chicken pieces to the bowl and toss until every piece is evenly coated in the honey BBQ marinade.
  3. Cover the bowl and refrigerate for 30 minutes to marinate.
  4. Preheat the air fryer to 400°F for 3 to 5 minutes.
  5. Lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray.
  6. Arrange the marinated chicken in a single layer in the basket, leaving a little space between pieces so air can circulate.
  7. Air fry at 400°F for 10 to 12 minutes, shaking the basket or turning the chicken halfway through cooking.
  8. Check that the chicken is cooked through and reaches an internal temperature of 165°F, and that the outside is caramelized and slightly sticky.
  9. Let the chicken bites rest in the basket for 2 to 3 minutes, then transfer to a serving plate and serve hot.

Notes

- Cut the chicken pieces the same size so they cook evenly.
- For extra saucy bites, brush on a little more barbecue sauce during the last 2 minutes of cooking.
- Do not overcrowd the basket; cook in batches if needed so the chicken crisps properly.
- Store cooled leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days and reheat in the air fryer at 350°F for 3 to 5 minutes.
