Ingredients
  

For the onion coating
  • 4 small small onions
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • to taste cooking spray For air frying

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Peel the 4 small onions and trim the root end slightly to sit flat.
  2. Make several vertical cuts down the sides of each onion to create petals.
Coating
  1. In a bowl, combine flour, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.
  2. In a second bowl, whisk the eggs and buttermilk until smooth.
  3. Set up your coating station with seasoned flour, egg-buttermilk mixture, and breadcrumbs.
  4. Roll an onion in the seasoned flour, dip it into the egg-buttermilk mixture, then press into the breadcrumbs.
Air Frying
  1. Preheat the air fryer if necessary.
  2. Arrange the onions in the air fryer basket, lightly spray the tops with cooking spray.
  3. Air fry until the coating is crisp and browned, and the onion inside is tender.
Serving
  1. Serve immediately while still crunchy.

Notes

Store leftovers in the fridge but expect the coating to soften. Reheat in air fryer for best results.
