Ingredients

Ingredients
  • 8 soft taco-size flour tortillas
  • 1/2 cup pizza sauce
  • 6 oz beef halal beef sausage slices slices about 80 slices total, 10 per roll
  • 8 sticks string cheese at room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons extra virgin olive oil
  • Nonstick cooking spray for air fryer basket
  • Ranch dressing marinara sauce, or garlic butter, for serving (optional)

Method

  1. Lay one flour tortilla on a flat surface.
  2. Spread 1 tablespoon of pizza sauce in a strip across the middle of the tortilla, leaving a 1/4 inch border on all sides.
  3. Arrange about 10 slices of beef halal beef sausage slices evenly over the sauce.
  4. Place 1 stick of string cheese on top of the halal beef sausage slices.
  5. Roll the tortilla up tightly around the filling, tucking in the sides slightly if needed, and place it seam side down.
  6. Repeat filling and rolling with the remaining tortillas, sauce, halal beef sausage slices, and string cheese to make 8 rolls.
  7. Lightly spray the air fryer basket with nonstick cooking spray.
  8. Preheat the air fryer to 375°F for 3 to 4 minutes.
  9. Brush the tops and sides of the assembled rolls with olive oil.
  10. Place 3 to 4 rolls in a single layer in the air fryer basket with space between each roll.
  11. Air fry at 375°F for 9 to 10 minutes, turning the rolls halfway through cooking if needed, until the tortillas are golden and crisp and the cheese is melted.
  12. Transfer the cooked rolls to a cutting board and let them cool for 1 to 2 minutes.
  13. Repeat cooking with any remaining uncooked rolls.
  14. Slice the rolls if desired and serve warm with ranch, marinara, or garlic butter for dipping.

Notes

- Make ahead by assembling rolls without oil, freezing on a parchment lined sheet until firm, then transferring to a freezer bag and cooking from frozen at 360°F for 10 to 12 minutes.
- Store leftover cooked rolls in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheat in the air fryer at 350°F for 3 to 5 minutes.
- Keep string cheese at room temperature before assembling so it melts evenly inside the rolls.
- Avoid overcrowding the air fryer basket so the rolls crisp evenly on all sides.
