Preparation
- In a large bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and salt. Sprinkle the yeast on top and let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
- Add the flour and mix until a dough starts to form. Knead for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
Cooking
- Preheat your air fryer to 450°F (230°C) while the dough rises.
- Bring a large pot of water to a boil and add the baking soda.
- Roll the dough into long ropes and cut them into bite-sized pieces.
- Carefully boil the pretzel bites in baking soda water for about 30 seconds, then remove and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Brush each pretzel bite with the beaten egg and sprinkle coarse sea salt on top.
- Place pretzel bites in the air fryer basket in a single layer and bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
- Let cool slightly before serving for the best texture.
Notes
Store leftover pretzel bites in an airtight container for up to 3 days. Reheat in the air fryer at 350°F for 3-5 minutes.
